Wordless Sighs

Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.

Romans 8:26 – The Message

It was a great day out, driving through a pastoral valley on my way to work, sunroof open. Drive times are my times to talk with God. Thankfully, I have minimal traffic to contend with so yes, I can concentrate on Him. But I do lapse.

Today I was praying for all manner of my woes, and praying on behalf of others near and dear to me. And I prayed for my current work situation, which has been a communication and scheduling circus as of late.

I vaguely remember praying to God that He would give me a breakthrough, since I have been trying to surrender this work situation to Him, though imperfectly. And it has not been going my way for at least a month, so my patience was vastly tested. To put it mildly, I was grumbling with passion.

“God, give me a breakthrough today. Blah, blah, blah… Then I get behind a dump truck (which God is using to build my character), and promptly lost my thread. Fifteen miles later, I am at work and oh, I forgot to finish praying. This experience gave me new reasons for actually praying in my prayer closet.

Despite this very shallow interaction with the Fulfiller of my Life, I get to work, and am given two breakthroughs – I find out that I will be given the schedule that I would like and I meet a business owner that works in a very high-end, extremely exclusive niche that needs interactive writing for his web sites, just my forte.

Despite my rather flip prayer, God showed himself to me yet again.  When will I ever learn?

God’s grace and graciousness is a beautiful thing to receive, eh? Laugh and smile my friend. God’s given you another opportunity to trust. That’s something to celebrate.
